Pavel Shmulevich is one of the most sought-after young basses of today and since 2008 he has been a principal soloist of Mariinsky Theatre. He has collaborated with such conductors as Valeriy Gergiev, Pierre Boulez, Mikko Franck, Yuri Bashmet, Alexander Lazarev, Gustav Kuhn, Tugan Sohiev, Antony Hermus, Dan Ettinger, Michael Güttler, Fabio Mastrangelo, Cornelius Meister, Alexander Poljanichko, Michail Tatarnikov, Pavel Smelkov, Mario Venzago, Srboljub Dinic, Michail Senkevich, Vladislav Karklin. He has worked with Directors including Charles Rubo, Philippe Calvario, Alain Maratrat, Jérome Deschamps, Graham Vick, Mascha Mckeev, Andrea Moses, Philipp Himmelmann, Roland Schwab, Vasilij Barhatov, Regula Gerber, Ian Judge, Jonatan Kent, Yuri Alexandrov, Joachim Schlömer, Lydia Steier, Ludger Engels and Stefan Märki.

Pavel has appeared on the stages of the Théâtre du Châtelet, London Coliseum, Kennedy Center, Avery Fisher Hall, Opéra de Lyons, Teatro Real, Konzert Theater Bern, Staatstheater Nürnberg, Anhaltisches Theater Dessau, Opera Zagreb, Nationaltheater Mannheim, Theater Heidelberg and Theater Bonn. He has taken part in international festivals with highlights including Aix-en-Provence, BBC Proms, Moscow Easter Festival and Tyrolean Festival. His discography includes DVD recordings of the operas THE LOVE FOR THREE ORANGES (Celio, Aix en Provence, 2004) and I viaggio a Reims (Antonio, Théâtre du Châtelet, 2005).

Pavel Shmulevich was born in St Petersburg and graduated from the vocal faculty of the St Petersburg State Rimsky-Korsakov Conservatoire. He also attended the Accademia di Montegral, directed by Gustav Kuhn. He is the winner of 3d prize Rimsky-Korsakov International competition of young opera singers in 2006 and 2nd prize E. Obraztsova Competition in 2007. Pavel had participated in masterclasses with Mati Palm, Elena Obraztsova, Ileana Cotrubas, Denis O’Neill, Vladimir Atlantov, Franz Grundheber and Francisco Araiza. He was a contestant in Plácido Domingo’s Operalia in 2014.
